Climate calendar

Stuttgart's climate and air calendar distinguishes itself from other calendars in its lack of a current diary. Its purpose is not to indicate Sundays or holidays but to display climate and air hygiene in Stuttgart for each month. It does not depict the current weather but rather gives a summary of the weather situation over a longer period of time.

In order to describe Stuttgart's climatic situation, the measurements of three climate measuring stations are used: the measuring station of the Weather Central in Alexanderstraße 112, which had been housed there until the summer 1984 and which had moved to Schnarrenberg, the Schnarrenberg station operated by the German Meteorological Service as well as the measuring station run by the Institute of Physics and Meteorology of the University of Hohenheim on a field north of the Hohenheim castle. The Weather Central measuring station mainly represents the city basin and the Neckar valley, the Hohenheim station stands for the Filder plains. The climate is defined as the average state of atmospheric conditions at a certain place. It is determined by the climatic elements air temperature, humidity, precipitation, air pressure, wind, clouds and radiation. Data representation is limited to the averaged 30-year periods 1951-1980 and 1961-1990. Comparisons with the current month or day show deviations from the depicted averaged values. The condition of the air is resumed in the annual reviews of Stuttgart's air measuring stations.

The CD-ROM Stadtklima 21 (Urban Climate 21, available in English and in German) provides an extensive representation of the urban climate of Stuttgart and the surrounding region.
